3D scanning confirms the high precision of 3D printing
The quality control was conducted by SMARTTECH – a company specialising in precision 3D scanners. The 3D model was printed on the Factory 2.0 Production System using ABS-42 filament.

The first step of the process was 3D scanning using the industrial scanner MICRON3D green 10 millimetre. MICRON3D uses a green LED-based measurement technology that achieves 30% better results than white light.
The next stage was an inspection carried out using Geomagic Control software, which allows a model to be sized and its thickness to be verified. For the OMNI3D printed part, dimensional quality control was performed using a comparison of the CAD reference to the measurement result. Engineers accepted a tolerance of 0.3 mm.
The most extreme point defining the material shortage used 78.6% of the assumed tolerance, while for the allowance this figure was 61.8%. This means that the precision of the 3D printed part was 30% better than expected.
