Low volume production
100 parts printed in 3D for police cars
Car manufacturer, which supplied 100 police cars in early 2017, had to adjust them to special requirements. There was a need to create parts that were not included in the standard version of this model.
‘The use of 3D printing was a natural solution to create an order for 100 cars. It would be less cost-effective and more time-consuming to use any other production technology at this level.’
Manufacturer had to take care of every detail of the car’s finish. In the Special Assemblies Department, cars were thoroughly prepared for service according to detailed specifications, consistent with technical and safety requirements.
One of the elements added to the car (compared to the model version) is the police siren. For its proper fastening, there was a need for casing. The square pieces, besides the siren fastening function, are also security elements. The casings are made of durable ABS-42 plastic and installed on the front bumpers.

3D printing is perfect for the production of special vehicles, such as police cars, ambulances, campers or delivery vans – vehicles that have to meet unique requirements. This technology is much faster and more cost-effective for low-volume production, compared to traditional manufacturing methods.
All casings were printed on 3D printers, using FFF technology.
